It's Georgian England, 1791, when a woman’s virtue is her fidelity. Her love unwavering, her heart constant and her affections true. Or at least, such is the belief of two young soldiers, Benjamin and William, as they try and convince their embittered third, the philosopher Alistair, of the extent of the doting of their soon-to-be brides. Alistair, however, has other ideas about the constancy of the female heart and sets about proving how false he thinks Fiona and Charlotte can be, because, after all, 'that’s what these young women are like.' But then again, aren't men just the same?

Based on Mozart’s widely acclaimed, heavily criticised and highly controversial opera ‘Cosi Fan Tutte’, ‘In Praise of Folly’ is a farce of all ages – presenting 21st century views through an 18th century lens, and asking what it really means to trust your heart, your lover and a doctor who uses geology as a viable form of medicine…

'It’s fast-moving and funny, and irresistible in its appeal.  Johnson’s direction is sharp, like a cut diamond  The sexual mores on display may remind us of the distance between the past and our present, but the machinations of the plot, played here to perfection, show that ‘old-fashioned’ conventions can come across as a refreshing and, above all, entertaining alternative to the pervasive naturalism of the modern-day stage and screen.'
